Summer Fun!

Summer is just flying by, isn't it? We've been keeping busy, and trying to keep cool in the heat! Here is a peek at some of the fun things we've done lately....

We have a weekly playgroup with friends from church. There haven't been many people showing up lately, but it is fun for the kids to go to the park or spray pad and play for the morning with some of their church friends. Here are my little monkeys playing at the park!

We made a quick day trip to Saskatoon to take the kids to see The Wiggles in Concert! Both the kids loved it! Eli was a bit confused at first, but after about 30 minutes, he started to dance and sing, and was very excited! So excited....that when it was over, he started bawling and didn't want to leave! Ella had a great time too - she was getting tired by the end, but she got in lots of dancing and laughter before she mellowed out. Both of them were tuckered out and slept the whole 2.5 hour drive home.

We've been letting the kids stay up a little later than usual during these summer months, because it's hard to convince them to go to sleep when it is still light! We've enjoyed lots of movie nights together, eating popcorn in our PJ's on the couch, or on a blow up mattress on the living room floor.

We also ventured out for one night on our first family camping trip! There is a nice campsite only 15 minutes from home, so we thought it would be a good option for our first trip! We spent the afternoon setting up camp, and playing at the beach and playground. We roasted hot dogs for dinner (Chris and I successfully started a fire! Neither of us have been camping since we were kids!) and also made s'mores over the fire once it got darker. Of course....I forgot my camera (!) but I managed to snap a blurry pic of our campfire on my phone.

We had to head into the tent around 10 pm when it started to rain, and we spent the night enduring a raucous thunderstorm! Ella had been camping with my family last year, so she knew all about sleeping in a tent, but Eli was so confused! Imagine trying to get him to go to sleep in a tent with the rain pouring down outside! He had no idea what was going on :) We survived the night and didn't get *too* wet! We'd like to get another overnight camping trip in before the end of the summer.

Only a few more weeks until Chris writes his big exam for his CA designation, Ella starts pre-school, I start choir, and the kids start their fall swimming lessons! Where did the summer go? It's been a good one so far!
