Our first week at the lake was full of party prep for Ella's 5th birthday extravaganza! With family, plus Ella's friends from back in Regina, we packed the lake house with around 30 people for a Princess Peach Party! Here comes a photo overload...
(note: Most of my party ideas came from Chica and Jo, who threw an awesome Princess Peach Party and filled my head with excellent party plans!)
First off, as usual, was the cake making. This was my first time doing fondant, plus I made my own hard candies for cake decoration. Overall I was happy with the result, even if the cake looked a little better further away than up close ;)
Probably the biggest cake conundrum was the fondant crown. I had shaped it upside down over a pickle jar 3 days in advance so that it would have time to dry and harden before placing it on top of the cake. Unfortunately....it stuck to the pickle jar so tightly that we had to smash the jar with a hammer! There were tiny shards of glass inside my crown (hahaha!) but nobody was supposed to eat that part anyways!
I also did up a Mario Bros. game mural on one of the windows, but it was hard to get a picture of it since it was backlit. There is a glimpse of it behind Ella here:
When the kids arrived at the party there were princess crowns for the girls, and Mario or Luigi hats for the boys. The girls had stickers available to decorate their crowns.
To keep the kids occupied we had a bouncy house, the trampoline, and a train table set up outside. This is the first year we have ever had Ella invite friends to her birthday party, so my biggest concern was keeping 11 kids, plus 2 babies happy! It looks like they are having a good time!
One of our party games was a Balloon Pop - each kid sat on a balloon to pop it and see how many gold coins were inside! Afterwards they used their gold coins to come and buy a freezie from me to cool off. We had wonderful weather!
For supper we had hot dogs, hamburgers, potato chips and watermelon. While the BBQing was going on, the kids trekked down the cliff to the lake shore to throw rocks in the water and find crayfish.
After supper we moved on to presents, so here is Ella diving in to the goods! Thanks to everyone for the wonderful gifts!
The crowning jewel of the day was probably this beloved Rapunzel gown which Ella automatically donned. A little scary for her Dad to see pictures of her with a wedding veil...... ;)
Then we brought out the cake and sang Happy Birthday! Ella just couldn't wait to blow out her candle, and neither could the wind, so we had to relight it several times before the song was over! But before long we were enjoying the cake.
Emerson enjoyed a watermelon rind. He was such a super-awesome-baby during the party! He let Grandma and Aunties take care of him and left me to the party throwing. He also did some pretty superb faces for the camera.
After cake and icecream there was more sugar to burn off, so there was plenty more bouncing and even a boat ride on the lake for a few lucky kiddies.
Happy Happy Birthday to Princess Ella!!! 5 years old!!!

Love the fun times!!!! It looks like a blast and how fun that tons of the party was outside.. so much easier to manage. YOur cake is fabulous... I love all the details!
